What is a wild pine ?

What is a wild pine ?

What is a wilding pine ?

A wild pine is just that, it's a self sown tree that generally starts life from an old planting, the seed sometimes travels kilometres with wind, birds, streams, stock, and other roaming animals.

In years gone by pines were used extensively for shelter, fire wood, etc in remote locations and now they have become invasive.

Often from plantings of our early ansestors such as in the Skippers Canyon area (Otago) sheep farming on Mount Aurum Station began before the gold rush, in 1860.

(Mt Aurum Station, now a reserve)
